Casting for Recovery has announced the appointment of Whitney Lange Milhoan as its new Executive Director.

Casting for recovery say:

Whitney, who will start with CFR in early September, brings a wealth of non-profit experience to CFR from her previous position as Director of Programs for First Descents, as well as a strong knowledge of CFR from her time as a volunteer fly casting instructor in CFR's Western Montana Glacier program.

"Whitney has the skills and personal characteristics needed to take CFR to the next level," said CFR Board Chair J.P. Duffy. "Her experience providing outdoor programs to persons affected by cancer complements CFR's mission nicely, and Whitney's strong connections in the outdoor, fly-fishing and cancer survivorship communities will serve her well at CFR. We look forward to working with her as we focus on growing the organization and making CFR retreats available to more women across the country."

Raised in Glacier National Park, Whitney is truly a product of the outdoors. She spent nearly a decade as a fly-fishing and whitewater rafting guide on Glacier's Flathead River system. From 2007 -2013, Whitney dedicated herself to supporting cancer survivors as the Director of Programs at First Descents, an organization that provides outdoor adventure programs for young adults with cancer.

Whitney will be splitting her time between the mountains of Montana and Vermont, and is thrilled to be joining the team at Casting for Recovery. "As a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, an avid angler and a career professional dedicated to supporting cancer survivorship, I couldn't be more excited to join the Casting for Recovery family. The CFR mission of using the therapeutic sport of fly fishing to promote physical, emotional and psychological health for women living with and surviving breast cancer is something I'm incredibly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started!"

About Casting for Recovery

Casting for Recovery is a national 501(c)(3) that enhances the quality of life of women with breast cancer by providing retreats that are designed to promote and support mental and physical healing.

CFR's retreats, which are free to participants, use counseling, medical education, and instruction in fly fishing to provide an opportunity for women at any age, or stage of treatment, to address survivorship issues.  In 2012, CFR operated 44 retreats in 33 states and served over 600 survivors.  It has served over 5,600 women since its founding in 1996.
