Orvis Name Fly-Fishing Lodge of the Year 2014
The Orvis Company has named the Lodge at Palisades Creek in Irwin, Idaho as the Orvis Endorsed Fly-Fishing Lodge of the Year 2014.
“The Lodge is selected based on a number of factors,” said Scotty McEnaney, manager of schools and endorsed services with Orvis.
“First, is the feedback our customers provide when filling out post trip reviews; second, it is our own knowledge of the operation and their commitment to making the fly fishing industry better by their strong business ethic and attention to detail. Third, it is about the resources they have available to them for exposure for our customers to their fishing experiences.”
The Lodge is situated along the tail waters of the Palisades Creek and the Snake River’s South Fork, an area that Orvis representatives argue is the “finest dry-fly fishing river in all of North America.”
For 22 years under the same owner and operator, Marshall Geller, The Lodge at Palisades Creek has accommodated up to 22 people at a time, pulling rainbow, brown, cutthroat and the hybrid “cut-bow” trout out of the Snake’s Tail waters.
This is not the first time the rustic feel, luxurious cabins and haute, Jackson-inspired wine and cuisine has earned them this honor. In 2007, The Lodge won the same award, and they were also nominated in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
“This is a prestigious recognition from our guests and our brand that proves we are doing things right,” said General Manager Justin Hays.
For over twenty years Orvis has recognized excellence in backcountry sporting by endorsing fishing lodges, outfitters and guides as the year’s best. They are awarded in eight different categories; wingshooting lodge, fly-fishing, outfitter, guide service, two different guides, international destination and an Orvis-endorsed guide lifetime achievement award.
“Each endorsed operation has its own character, but all share the same high standards: great service, great fishing or wingshooting, and an experienced, professional staff,” said Christie Kozak, public relations for The Orvis Company.
