Angling International report that: ‘The number of visitors to the giant retail destination store – the former home of the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team – has exceeded all expectations. General Manager, David Hagel said the attendance count is ‘a lot of people in a short space of time’.
Developed by Bass Pro Shops Founder, Johnny Morris, as a national destination experience, the massive Pyramid – based alongside the Mississippi River – has earned the company and Memphis international recognition. “At weekends it’s so neat to see how many foreign tourists are here,” added Hagel.
“Visitors are making special trips to experience Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid because there is nothing like it in the world. We are grateful to our loyal Bass Pro Shop fans as well as first-time visitors for embracing us with such enthusiasm. It has been an amazing year and this is an amazing Christmas gift.”
Turnstile data shows that the Pyramid officially welcomed its two-millionth visitor on Monday, December 14th, although the actual number of people who have been to the site may be even more as not all guests enter through a turnstile.
Despite its success with the public it has not all been plain sailing as the giant structure has been beset with flooding when it rains. “It’s a 25 year-old building and there’s some caulking that has come apart in the northeast corner,” said project architect, Tom Marshall.
The repair bill is expected to be around $122,000 and is being picked up by the city council, which rents the site to Bass Pro Shops.’
