Default Re: a tip for fly casting

I marked the line with a black felt pen at about 48' on my line. So when the mark is in my stripping hand, I know that 40' of line is out of the rod. I then did some practising where I found that with the black mark in my stripping hand, I had to do about 12 retreives/stips to bring in enough line in order to fly the line. Once I did this I was able to get the required 40' out of the rod with 2 false casts. So when I'm on the water I follow the same pattern. I wasn't able to actually see where the black mark is while casting, I can only see the line while stripping in line.
