I have a bunch of "sentimental" rods. I'm never reluctant to fish them and I never baby them. They were meant to be used and do no service to anyone sitting in a corner.
I have rods that belonged to my grandfather and my father and two that belonged to friends that have passed on. Plus there's the rod that my father built for me when I was 16.
The only one that I don't use is the rod I caught my first fly rod fish on in 1963. And that's only 'cuz it's a POS.
Three have had broken tips and been repaired, others refinished or rebuilt. The former owners haven't complained once and are most likely happy that their gear is still in use.
