The books that were most benficial to me when I started were the ones with detailed directions to streams with access points, etc. Part of my problem was just knowing where to fish. I don't know your part of the country, but I'm sure there are tons of books called "Fly Fishing So and So". For me, it was a book named "Fly Fishing in Shenandoah National Park". With the knowledge that you're fishing in the right spot, you'll be more confident and your fishing will improve. It will also likely give you advice on the best equipment to use for that particular area, flies, etc.

Good luck with it...sounds like you're well on the way to becoming hooked. Sorry for the bad pun.
