I've seen good casters go 100+ ft. with a bamboo rod; that's pretty good distance for what would have to be considered a slower action rod.

I agree with Chris, in general it's the technique, not necessarily the rod composition or degree of stiffness, that gets you the distance.

Find a rod that matches your natural casting rhythm and go have some fun with it.
