Fishing at night is very common in the UK for sea trout and I am by no means an expert at it but I know you have to be extremely confident in your wading ability if you are to get in the river in the dark and know the water very well. Amazing how a hole can appear out of nowhere in the dark! You will probably be surprised at how well you can see with the little light there is reflecting off the water.

The few times I have fly fished at night I do use a headlamp but never when facing the water! Always get out the water and turn away from it and then use a red headlamp to tie on a fly before turning it off and getting back in to the drink.
