I could imagine somebody using a kilt for flyfishing if they liked to feel "freer" and more "airy", but still wanted their thighs to be covered from the sun. That would be the same reason why anyone would wear a kilt for any other situation, though. As someone pointed out, kilts can offer backpackers certain advantages for minimizing chaffing. I just can't see any flyfishing-specific advantages for the kilt as compared to something like fast-drying shorts or a swimming suit.
