I think one of the most common casting defects is adding slack between our hands during the cast. If we do, when we begin our forward cast there is initially no line tension to load the rod.

When I'm hauling, I make sure I finish my upward haul with my line hand even with my rod hand.

If I'm not hauling, I make sure I begin my forward cast by moving both rod and line hand at the same time and the same speed.
