Re: newb to bonefish

Oh man, kids today really are a lot smarter...... way to spend that tuition!

You'll have a blast. Life is all down hill after college anyway, so live it up.

If you tie, get crackin'. Most bonefish stuff is pretty easy to whip up, and there are a lot of patterns out there. If you can convince your parents they're "textbooks", try to get your hands on some books by Dick Brown ("Fly fishing for Bonefish" and "Bonefish Flies" )

In addition to your bonefish flies selected and sized specifically for Andros, some light, some dark and in various weights (get good advice from folks that have been there a lot) take:

a good pair of amber/brown polarized sunglasses, essential for spotting fish

an assortment of basic saltwater flies like size 2/0 deceivers, 1/0 clousers, some heavily weighted 3/0 half and halfs or rabbit strips for deep dredging, and something to chug along the surface like 2/0 crease flies or poppers. You'll probably be able to get access to a boat, and these will be good to throw at all kinds of other stuff including jack crevalle, snappers etc. and will cover the water column. There's a lot of other stuff around besides the bones.

extra material and hooks and other stuff for tying for when you need a break from studying at the library (yeah right).

We're all looking forward to your term paper.
