Default Re: How do you know you have the right line for your rod?

Being low-tech, for me it's all about how the rod feels when I use it. I recently built what I thought would be a nice 3wt rod, till I got it out on the river. As I cast it, it felt wrong, underpowered. Next time I was out I brought my 4wt reel and presto, what a great rod. With the 3 wt line on I found that if I was able to get a good bit of line out there it started feeling alright, but if I can't cast it comfortably under normal fishing conditions, I don't care what's written on the rod, I'm going to find the line that works.
