I think you're over thinking it.

Your guides won't be damaged by normal fishing. Setting the hook doesn't have enough pressure to damage the guides or the line.

Just remember, a slight lift of the rod, or a downstream set. Never an upstream set. That just pulls the flies out of the fish's mouth.

Use any technique you want, a strip set, lifting the rod or a side arm set, but you won't damage anything.
