Default Replacing a reel seat

Ok, I just got my hands on a used 6 foot 5 weight Fenwick glass rod. It is a custom build. The finish is pretty good along with the cork. But the reel seat is an awfull plastic thing that is way too long for the rod. Now, what is the best way to remove it? I heard that you can dip it in hot water for a while and slide it off. What kink of glue is best for installing a new one. Thanks for any input.
