Great reading your post, very reminiscent of my experiences so far.
I went out again yesterday for a couple of hours where some bigger carp live. Got one take, but missed it!
bUt similar to you, caught many small bass and a few big bluegills.

PS, I've been tying on Daiichi 1530 #4's. small, short and heavy. I think they are meant for salmon egg patterns, but they have been working great so far.
I will have to try out some of the SL45's...
