Shock tippet for Tarpon is more for abrasion resistance as their mouths are very hard & gill plates very sharp.

I've used 30 lb nylon coated wire for Big Bluefish & Spanish Macs, with no problems but have never caught a shark on a fly. I would guess it will all depend on exactly how big the shark really is that takes the fly.
