More-so than lack of tail... I'm not positive, but since there's no material list, just looking at the picture; the hackle looks soft and "webby", the body looks like some type of yarn, and that huge ball of head cement will all contribute to a fast-sinking fly (as opposed to a floating "dry" fly).

Not a bad thing. I fish wingless wets 80-90% of the time and love them. I could see this thing effectively catching fish (with less hackle), but not floating.

How about calling it the Red Baron
