What kind of rod is it ?.... that would cut back on the number of tip-tops that you need to consider. I think that you can count on it being around a 5 or a 5.5, but it won't be a 4 or a 6.5.
Also, silk thread is a good investment for a cane rod but really unnecessary for graphite or glass and a waste if your using that high- build finish
You're better off with nylon.
