Default Re: How important is looking the part?

I prefer to fish with a smile. I have some good gear but it has taken me forever to save for it. I remember trying to figure out fly fishing on my own by watching others and asking them questions. however, the people that I encountered were not too willing to help. That's why I (try) to fish with a smile, and be approachable. I love to see a beginner and help them any way that I can. I always start with " listen to me...........if I can learn to do it, you will have no problem". I could care less what gear the other guy has. Unless he has a badge!
Greeting someone with civility is an acquired trait that may take years for some of us to process and apply. However, the return trip barbarism takes about 15 seconds when you are offended. Who's at fault?
