Imagery sometimes helps and some instructors will use the "flick the water off the paint brush" idea. Stand directly in front of a wall and start with your right hand at the backcast position, right next to your head. In slow motion push your hand toward the wall and make a stop before hitting the wall but continue moving your hand horizontally turning your wrist so that your palm faces the wall and imagine a line you are brushing on the surface. Now try it real speed.

For the best feedback get a bucket, a brush and some water and flick the water on the wall so that you make a horizontal line on the wall. Make lines both right and left for curves that go that direction to get the feel for curves.
