A medium-sized loop on backcasts will be more forgiving to your timing than that narrow loop will be....and as said don't overpower the line, leader & fly at the beginning of the forward stroke...keep the leader & fly's speed close to that of the end of the backcast. Not only will it get rid of those windknots, it'll keep that sinewave from forming...which forms that wave pattern and drops the leader and fly downward, often catching that branch you're trying to keep it all above..
