You won't go wrong with a 9ft 5 wt rod as an all purpose rod for fly fishing the Rockies. I wouldn't spend a lot on a reel, in fact I would seriously take a look at one of the Allen Fly Fishing Reels, you can't beat the price (discount to forum members) for the quality of reel.
