Default First fish of the season-with audience

The local lakes in Anchorage finally went ice out last week. The weather has generally been sunny but breezy. ADF&G hasnt been out to stock any of the lakes. I cruised down to one of my favorite local lakes this evening for basically some "casting practice" and there were a ton of people out fishing and enjoying the weather. I managed to hook up this respectable 17in hen on an egg sucking leech I tied up a month ago.

Upon hookup using my 3wt she ran and gave an awesome fight. Enough to draw the attention of all the nearby kids and other frustrated anglers. I took the pic from my phone so forgive the low quality photo. She was released without harm.

Hi Nerka,

Thanks for sharing a very nice Rainbow. What rod and reel did you use?

Frank

3wt TFO Finesse 7'9" with a ross flyrise.

I was down at the same lake today on my lunch hour and caught another nice one. Not quite as big, but it is the best way to spend an hour of the workday.
