3/25/12 - Spring is here and things are picking up

Posted 03-25-2012 at 08:24 AM by alcorn

Ya know... I just can't help but get excited about this time of year. The weather is getting warmer. The birds are coming out. The fish are biting again. Its getting fun and Spring is the cause.

This time of year always gets me excited. I had a friend call me from south florida. He was on a business trip and took a few days extra before flying back to do some fishing. He called because he had caught a boat load of snook and red fish and had even managed to hook into a a good sized...

3/19/12

Posted 03-19-2012 at 02:56 PM by alcorn

Well if you read the first three entrees to my blog already then you know that I kind of dropped off the face of the earth for a while there... almost a year. Sorry about that. I had to take some time for health issues. Its not something that I wanted to do but its part of life. Thanks to these issues I'm back in Indiana, I've had to move to a new apartment with a stocked lake on the property. I've also had to go on disability due to my health so that kind of sucks. Casting Session #1 - Oh man

Posted 02-28-2011 at 06:41 PM by alcorn

Well.. I'm reading the Orvis guide to better casting. My basic hope is that if I follow this guys casting lessons then I may become a better caster. I did lesson one tonight with my 9wt. I would have used the five wt or eight wt but I haven't had the 9 out all season so I decided to use it. I forgot how well it loaded. I was only supposed to focus on my grip, back cast and front cast. Well I did that for a afew minutes and then I really got going. Before I knew it I was doin all those fun things...

The tale of the transplanted fisherman - The Arkansas Journey

Posted 02-27-2011 at 06:14 PM by alcorn

Well my friends I have arrived. My work has kept me very busy but this weekend I finally made it to the Little Red. I even managed to snag a few while there. For those of you who haven't read my thread posted in December, my job moved me to Arkansas from Indiana. My girlfriend and family are all in Indiana so its me, my work, and apparently my fly rod down here in Arkansas. I found a nice little fly shop in Little Rock, which is about 40 minutes from where I live. The people there gave me some flies...
