The tale of the transplanted fisherman - The Arkansas Journey

Posted 02-27-2011 at 06:14 PM by alcorn

Well my friends I have arrived. My work has kept me very busy but this weekend I finally made it to the Little Red. I even managed to snag a few while there. For those of you who haven't read my thread posted in December, my job moved me to Arkansas from Indiana. My girlfriend and family are all in Indiana so its me, my work, and apparently my fly rod down here in Arkansas. I found a nice little fly shop in Little Rock, which is about 40 minutes from where I live. The people there gave me some flies and I bought some materials to tie more of the patterns they showed me. They seemed to work.

I really liked the fly shop I went to and I plan on going there again and possibly by their sister store nearer to where I actually fished.
I wasn't driving. A local that I met through work took me so I'm not sure where exactly it was. We only caught a few small rainbows but it was fun. No snakes yet. I'm sure sooner or later I'll see em. One thing is for sure. My casting needs some work. Even though they were comparitively shorter cast than I was used to I just didn't feel right yet so I'm gonna work on that.

The biggest change to me was fishing under a strike indicator with small nymphs. I'm used to big woolly buggers and clousers and here I am throwing these flies that are as big as an eye on some of my others. I was told to keep them in my box as they too have a place.

I think right now I'm gonna keep reading about the fishings, start doing some overhaul on my casting, and get out next weekend for another big adventure. It should be a pretty good time. I'll keep ya posted. Till then have a good one.
