When you catch and harvest / kill a king salmon there are a couple rules you must comply with right away to avoid problems. First thing before you forget is dry your hands and get out your license. Fill out the harvest information on the back and date it, then remove your fly from the leader and break down the rod. Breaking down the tackle isn't the law but it serves to remove all doubt whether you are done fishing. I think I mentioned this before but you may not fish in 'any' flowing water on the...

Tarpon Day 7= Final Day

Well it finally came, the last day of 2011 Tarpon Trip. And we got off to a much better start than Day 5! The guide was on time. We got the jump on the competition for the flat we like best. About 10 minutes after we arrive on our spot 2 other boat came slowly cruising up and then motor for other waters. The wind was up and there was a fair amount of cloud cover but this was predicted to clear up before noon. Things were looking good!!

I will be away to the cabin for a couple weeks leaving Sunday the 23, and returning sometime in January.

So, welcome to my first blog post. I have low expectations- (and so should you ).

Due to my busy work schedule, I haven't had time to fish much the last 10 days or so. Every once in a while I have these dry stretches of time, and generally it leads to a few predictable mental destinations-
1. A tendency to be more cranky and less patient in day to day stuff (I need the space the river provides me!).

I have a guide friend who is an avid hatch matcher. He will carefully pump the stomach of the first trout he catches, and dutifully inspect the contents. He will then tie on whatever the trout he caught has been eating.

Figuring out what bugs are on the river via watching what's buzzing around me, or looking under rocks is my own preferred method! I'm not much for stomach pumping.

On the other hand, function over form says: An elk hair caddis with a dropped copper...
