fly tying

Posted 06-05-2013 at 09:42 PM by flyfishmich

Well, I have mono and I am off work for another 8 days.
Other than eating and not exercising I have to do something that keeps me occupied and interested as well as productive.
So, I ordered a beginner kit. I have read that it is better to just get the stuff you need for the specific flies I want to tie. but, A)I cant be around people B) I have not been able to find lists about what I need.
So, I got the kit with a high rating and not too expensive. I am sure if I don't like doing it then I will just let the stuff go. But if I do like it then I can get the tools that I like and the vise I like all within time.
I will keep everybody posted. I love photography and I love the pics that people have posted using a macro lens. Just fills the entire space with color. Pretty cool.

I hope you update your blog and add one about your trip to Wyoming! Sorry the timing didn't workout so we could fish together, maybe next time.

    Hi mich,

You'll enjoy the kit I'm sure. You may be surprised how long you'll be able to use the vise that comes with. I tied flies for 25 years on a Thompson A vise and still use one. The expensive rotary vises are nice but the reason I ever bought one was that I found one at a going out of business sale and paid 64 dollars for a Renzetti Traveler back in 1994. If I had not found that I may have continued using my Thompson for who knows how long........

    keep us updated,
