School is back in session and it's time for high school football with the "Boys of Fall".
Last season our local team had a great regular season(11-1) making it to the 5A State Championship Game coming up short against the only team is the state(Bingham Miners) to be ranked Nationally @ #14 by USA Today.
Bingham is once again ranked #1 in the state in The Coaches Poll with Fremont on their heels ranked at #2.

Our team is returning virtually all of it's starters from last season and their hungry to show that last season was no fluke.
The first game we will be traveling south to the southern end of the Salt Lake Valley to play the Jordan Beetdiggers who always field a tough team,(they beat us on our homefield in a tough game last year) so tomorrow nights game will be a good test for our team.
I hope you don't mind if I blog about The Silver Wolves this season, Over the last few years some of our neighborhood kids have played and watching them has been a joy. Pam and I once again will be attending all of the games, even altering our fishing schedule to do so, which in a runoff altered season is very tough in itself. This years team is special and I have a feeling it's their year to win it all.

Fyshtales from The South Fork.
This weekend Pam and I headed to The South Fork to celebrate our Anniversary. The water has been very high all Summer and has only come down to fishable and safe floating levels over the last couple weeks, needless to say it's been a tough season with no "water therapy" on our favorite river.
This being our Anniversary I bought Pam a new rod(ok it was a very lightly used, well taken care of rod that I picked up from Paul aka "IMXER"), a Loomis GL4 9' 6wt that will work great as a dedicated streamer rod. I wanted to surprise her with it before we floated, but I had no way of concealing the rod tube wrapped in brightly colored paper so I decided to give her the rod on Thursday night instead. She was surprised and excited to use it the next day. Thanks Paul.
We checked in with a few local Guides who we've become friendly with over the years, they each told us the river is tough right now with the fish being tight lipped and the hatches very light and irregular. You know it's probably going to be tough fishing when the Guides who make their living on the river are scratching their heads while trying to solve the rivers riddles. We decided to fish The Canyon section from Conant to Wolf, if fishing was slow atleast we would enjoy the scenery and wildlife.
While prepping the boat for launch, stowing gear, and putting rods together the rest of my Anniversary plan was ready to unfold. I had told Pam that she could use a Lamson L2 reel from another rod on the GL4 and we would pick up a reel later on, so at this point I had to put on my game face while digging through the gear bag and tell her that I couldn't find the reel she planned on using, the look of concern was priceless, I kept digging for a moment and produced another brightly colored package for her to unwrap that contained a new Ross CLA 3 with a RIO Clouser line. I love it when a plan comes together.
Pam started the day throwing a yellow Zoo Cougar, it has become our "go to fly" when throwing streamers on this river. The day was warm and sunny, the scenery was beautiful, and the fish were more than willing to take a look at the offering, but few were willing to commit. We changed over to a white Zoo Cougar and had the same results. We enjoyed the day and boated a few smaller fish.
The evening was spent having dinner and beers with some of our Guide friends listening to their salt water adventures from the past Winter. It was nice to catch up and listen to a few lies.
Day 2 we decided to float The Canyon again, hoping that the fish would cooperate a little more. We would not be disappointed today.
Pam threw the white ZC from the day before, adding an additional split shot(2) to get it down just a little faster, this additional weight seemed to be just the ticket.
A nice 18" Brown.
19" Brown.
And the best fish of the day, a 23" Brown.
She landed another 5 fish, all between 15-17". Overall the day ended up being one of the best days ever on this river, not because of high numbers of fish caught(spend a few hours in a good riffle and you'll catch many more fish), but rather the consistent size of them.
With the heavy flows all season these fish have eaten well and are very healthy.
Days like this make me glad to be her Guide, what a great anniversary.

Paul, I forgot to mention that I used the 3 wt in a small back channel where we did find some fish working. The ol' IMX worked perfectly and I landed 4 nice fat Cutties on a size #20 Pink Humpy.

He was pretty sly! This and our engagement are the only 2 surprises he's ever been able to pull off......OK, maybe there is one more in there. He is like a kid at Christmas! He picks up surprises for me and then can't stand the suspense and caves in early and gives them to me.
He had me for a minute on the reel...I was really disappointed thinking I wasn't going to be able to christen the rod that day! Lucky for him, he came through!
That day was truly one of the best days on that river for me! Those fish were pretty aggressive taking that streamer! Even the fish that didn't actually take it, went after it hard! One of those days I'll never forget!
What he didn't tell you was how big the shoulders were on that last one....Second photo down.
That fish was tough! There was no wearing him out, no convincing him to swim towards me, he wanted to win, he had no interest in the net or the bank for that matter. It was a good 10 minutes of reeling, running, reeling, chasing...John parked the boat twice in slack water after following him down stream. Longer and stronger fight than the 23"er! Even after he was in the net, he was still raring to go, recovered quick and off he went!
Great trip, great surprise, great fish and a great new rod!!! It's a keeper, for sure! (It will be well taken care of Paul, already a treasure!)

Thanks Dave. Yes I am blessed with having a wife that fishes with me, but it's also a curse in the sense that she kicks my can down the river while catching more and bigger fish!

Well I finally remembered to come and read & see the anniversary blog. Whoa, those are some beautiful trout Pam, I know you had to be happy with a new rod - personal guide - and all those fish
John told me about the fish and he told me the pictures were here but I forgot, early stage Ardsheimer's according to Nancy............... I know you guys were out again on Sep. 17/18, I'll look for the report here.
