Fishing Streamers, Where & When Part 1;

Posted 03-14-2015 at 01:47 PM by Hardyreels

Sometimes I don’t know what will be the best way to explain something about fishing to other people. Should it be a nuts & bolts ‘How To’ kind of message or should it be related through a story. I can become easily bored with either methood and I worry when I start off writing something. Will it make sense? Like everything I write into the threads here this will be something that represents an opinion. It is my opinion but I reach this type of assessment through years of practice so I'll share...

Streamers, Where & When Part 2;

Posted 03-14-2015 at 01:47 PM by Hardyreels

So, where was I............

One of my best examples would come from history, my own times fishing on Pennsylvania’s famous Penn’s Creek. There is a very large pool, I mean long, wide and deep that exists about ¾ mile below where little Cherry Run dumps its freestone water into the big limestoner. This pool was a favored place for a friend of mine some 16 years ago and he always ask if I wanted to travel down there with him when the Green Drake’s were on the water. On my second years...

Streamers, Where & When Part 3;

So what was it I was going to write about in this thread? Oh yeah, where & when. The where is almost always those places you and very few others bother to fish. These places are often like I described in the remembrance here, pretty deep and swift. The when can be as it was for me that June evening but I really liked fishing the crack of dawn for brown trout. Getting into position to fish downstream before it is light enough to see to cats usually ensures that you’ll have at least a couple hours...

What I've Learned About being A Guide;

Posted 10-12-2014 at 04:40 PM by Hardyreels

I see the occasional thread on the forum started by someone who is eager to get into the guide thing. I don't reply on the open forum because my experiences may not be mainstream with the lower 48.

How I got into this may surprise you, there were 2 influences on the decision. First came many people who suggested that I should write a book about fishing. Seriously, there were many people who read threads and stories in this blog that said "if you write one I'll buy one"....

I'm still around but...........

Posted 06-21-2014 at 04:53 PM by Hardyreels

I must admit that the fish guide business is demanding to say the least. I have spent every day this past week trying hard to get salmon onto the flies of people fishing with me. The days are starting with an alarm going off at 2:30 AM and I am returning home at 8 or 9 in the evenings. This is as close as I have came to having a time clock to answer to since 1988 and it is proving to be demanding work.

I was thinking back on all the posts I've seen from people who are determined to...
