Ive decided to write in larger text to see how I like the look of it. It has been an interesting time for the past seven days here. I have fished six of the seven and was off for a day while I broke a camp and changed rivers. My first camp and river afforded beautiful scenery and good weather.

Another Day Another Chance

On another morning I found myself sitting in the boat at 4:10 AM watching another bottleneck that feed into another huge pool. The regulations prohibit fishing for salmon between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM so I had elected to spend a couple hours looking for fish. It didn't take long before I spotted a wake and realized there were a bunch in the head of the pool. I cast for 2 hours and 55 minutes with the Skykomish that is tied to my line in this picture.

The Bad & The Ugly, Part 3;

I hope this is the end of it for this year.

I have no picture but I think you'll get the idea. I went fishing today June 15, 2011 even though it was raining when I left for the river at 4:30 AM. It was also only 40 degrees down on the water and the rain was a cold one. The past two days have been good with a 28 pound salmon caught on Monday followed by a 40 on Tuesday so I figured to go 3 for 3. You are only allowed 5 king salmon annually in Alaska and only one may be harvested on

Posted 04-10-2011 at 02:07 PM by Hardyreels
Updated 04-11-2011 at 12:07 PM by Hardyreels

Breakup, that's what Alaskans call springtime. It is a time of melting snows, ice out on the rivers and lakes and of course mud. Gravel roads and driveways get soft and you don't walk around on your lawn for a while but things eventually dry out and firm up. By April the weather can turn warm without much notice or things can stay pretty chilly and that is what makes this time of year a gamble if you intend to spend a few weeks out at the cabin. The drive to the cabin is made by snowmachine and...

Drove The Motorcycle to Anchorage Today;

Posted 03-21-2011 at 09:40 PM by Hardyreels

With the cost of fuel here just a tad below $4 / gallon I have been waiting for the roads to become clear of ice so that I could begin using my bike again. Today I had a trip to Anchorage that had to be made (53 miles one way) and the temperature was at 36* so away I went. The motorcycle gets right around 50 mpg depending on how hard you turn the throttle but 50 is average. That alone makes it an attractive way to get around these days. The big aluminum panniers are water tight and allow you to...
