When I got to the river, I looked at the level and the clarity- I saw the runs, pools, and the holes. I immediately thought "dryfly day" and tied on a #14 tan caddis. Ginked it up and off I went. About 30 casts in with nary a looker, I started feeling antsy. I was so sure and set on my plan of attack that I was hesitant to change out my setup. But a new resolution...

Yesterday I took some time and ventured OFF the beaten trail. As in off the "I fish here all the time" trail. It took a little map work, some plotting of routes, and some Googling- but I was rewarded with a fairly precise and successful expedition.

What I mean by precise and successful is that I did not waste alot of time on the road plotting a route or getting lost, and I found water and caught fish. I did the work ahead of time and knew the type of road, what to look...

Figuring out what bugs are on the river via watching what's buzzing around me, or looking under rocks is my own preferred method! I'm not much for stomach pumping.

On the other hand, function over form says: An elk hair caddis with a dropped copper...

So, welcome to my first blog post. I have low expectations- (and so should you ).

Due to my busy work schedule, I haven't had time to fish much the last 10 days or so. Every once in a while I have these dry stretches of time, and generally it leads to a few predictable mental destinations-
1. A tendency to be more cranky and less patient in day to day stuff (I need the space the river provides me!).

2. I find myself wandering around the area of...
