Fishing a Private Wyoming Ranch: The Highs and Lows!

Posted 07-22-2014 at 08:56 AM by mcnerney

I got invited out to fish on a private ranch this afternoon. When I got there the owner told me that virtually no one fishes this small stream, I'm thinking I have died and gone to heaven.......can it get any better than this!
I rig up and head toward the small stream, no bigger than 10 ft across. The owner had told me they have some big trout in that stream so I opt to use my Hardy Zenith 5 wt. I tie on a size 18 parachute adams and within 5 minutes of casting I'm into a really nice Rainbow. After a few photos and releasing that fish, I find that I now have company, the owners two small children decide to come out and follow me along the river. After 5 minutes the little girl decides to go back to the house, but the little boy decides to follow me along the river, at first it wasn't bad, then he decides to jump in front of me and walk along the bank, I'm pretty sure he was spooking all the fish in front of me, then the wind came up and made casting pretty difficult, so I called it a day. I stopped at the ranch house to thank the owner for the opportunity to fish their little stream and they invited me back anytime. OMG, I think I have died and gone to heaven!!!!
Here are a few photos of that Rainbow I landed:

    Ranch outing.

What a great looking place to fish and find some time, just looking at the rock formations it must be a wind swept place.

Milt: Yes, I had to cross the electric fence before I could cross the bridge to get to the stream.

Rick: Thanks! Wyoming wind, what can I say. LOL!
