Lovin' Wyoming! (Part One)

Posted 08-18-2014 at 02:08 PM by mcnerney

First trip out since my trip up to Yellowstone NP, I was quite surprised when I took a peek at the temp when it said 37 degrees, sure feels like fall is heading our way and I'm nowhere near ready for summer to end. When I got to Fontenelle I had another surprise, Game and Fish was there inspecting boats for invasive species, that is a first, the gal told me they are just roaming from site to site. I would think they would put more emphasis on this water seeing how many out-of-state boats use the river, but what do I know. While at the launch I noticed that water was still coming over the spillway, but not nearly as much as a couple weeks ago, sure is nice to be blessed with all the water we received this year. I was babysitting the dogs and so today would be a test to see how they did in the pontoon boat and actually it worked out pretty good except for right after launching there was a small dog barking along the bank and the new dog jumped out of the boat, so I had to pull her back in, but after that they stayed in the boat the whole day. Today I had two rods rigged, one for throwing streamers and the other nymphing, seeing how I got skunked on dries on the last trip. I guess I shouldn't have given up seeing how at one point I was standing in water that was littered with Trico spinners, but by then it was around 1 pm and I didn't see any earlier in the day. I had floated down to this spot in the river and started nymphing, landing two and missing another couple on the hook set in about an hour's time. I keep watching the guy across the river throwing dries, changing flies but never did see him hook up, before I finally floated on down the river.

The Browns showed no love today, but the Rainbows came out to play:
