Western Wyoming Float Trip, July 2013

Posted 05-28-2014 at 05:35 PM by mcnerney

Yesterday I made it out for another local float, it was an early get up, I wanted to be at the boat ramp at 5:30 am at the latest, this is a long stretch of water and I had to be back home for a 6 pm dinner engagement, besides in the back of my mind I wanted to be off the water before the late afternoon thunderstorms started brewing. Lately we have been getting hammered with the late afternoon storms, but I can't complain as the hay farmers are loving all the moisture. The night before I got the...

Fly Fishing Western Wyoming, June 2013

Posted 05-28-2014 at 05:32 PM by mcnerney

Here is a report on a couple days of fishing, the first day was an afternoon wade on the Green up above Warren Bridge, I like that spot as I can bring the new dog and let her run while I fish. As the camping season gets into high gear, that spot won't be an option, but for now there usually isn't anyone up there. The second day was a float on a local stream, and a maiden voyage for the dog. Ard had mentioned awhile back that he bought his dog a doggie PDF, so I looked online and found one. Seeing...

Wyoming Fly Fishing, June 2013

Posted 05-28-2014 at 05:27 PM by mcnerney

Well the winds have finally subsided, I thought I was living in a wind tunnel for the past couple of days. Yesterday I did a float on one of the local rivers. I had no real idea of the float distance (upwards of 10 miles or more), so just to be safe I decided to leave the house by 5:30 and get on the water early in case those heavy winds come roaring back in the afternoon.
I started off nymphing, but that didn't work well as the water levels are already pretty low and sitting low in the...

Wind River Mtns Fishing Trip

Posted 05-28-2014 at 05:13 PM by mcnerney

This past month (July 2012) I have been taking horse back riding lessons mainly to go riding with my girlfriend and hopefully get into some of the remote high country lakes north of town. The Wind River range is just loaded with remote lakes that I want to explore. Dexter, the guy that I'm taking lessons from offered to take me up into the Wind River Mtns to fish for Goldens and I jumped on the opportunity. The plan was to take his grandson (Shawn) and his best friend (David) and myself with...

Why I Fly Fish for Trout...as if I need a Reason

Posted 05-22-2014 at 01:52 PM by michael_vorhis

I've heard it said that trout live in beautiful places, and it takes no more than a single glance above their fluid world--at snow-blanketed ranges and breeze-cleansed, wildflower-strewn mountain meadows and soaring ospreys--to know that it is true. We do our best to protect their homes...but why? Why do I care?

I'd become hooked on fly fishing long before, as a child, probably by reading some issue of Outdoor Life my Dad had subscribed to for my sake, but in those days the focus...
