Gray dun

Posted 03-19-2017 at 12:05 AM by americanzero

Tied a gray dun tonight! First real success I have had with hackle feathers. Pretty happy with how it came out. Also tied a shwaf and a few others I have already done once. I am getting a better idea of what I need. Blue dubbing, blue thread, pheasant tail feather. Curved point scissors would be helpful. Still fighting the small sized whip finisher, really need to get a normal sized one.

Dragonfly

Posted 03-18-2017 at 12:09 AM by americanzero

I am improving my dubbing skills! I had some bow string wax, and it made a tremendous difference. I didn't do too much tonight, just did an ez-nymph, an emerger, and I made a dragonfly of my own creation. I dunno how it will work. It I think it looks buggy!

Also, I am trying to get some of the turkey hunters I know to pitch in some feathers when they take a bird this year and donate them to Project Healing Waters. That's it for tonight.

Another new material

I raided my kids craft supplies and found some lengths of rigid yarn. It works like no-dub I think I. Tied and emerging nymph and a red SHWAPF.

If you were to read that it may provide some context for something I wrote into a PM to send to another member. The writing below refers to part of my own experiences on different rivers.

So tired

Posted 03-16-2017 at 12:09 AM by americanzero

So tired, indeed! Purchased two hen necks today. I have hackle for drys, now I just have to figure out how to use it. Not having a teacher/mentor is a total bummer, but I would rather learn the hard way than not at all. I tied a copper midge, another SHWAPF, and what was supposed To be a hares ear. it looks more like a dragonfly emerger.
