Casting Session #1 - Oh man

Posted 02-28-2011 at 06:41 PM by alcorn

Well.. I'm reading the Orvis guide to better casting. My basic hope is that if I follow this guys casting lessons then I may become a better caster. I did lesson one tonight with my 9wt. I would have used the five wt or eight wt but I haven't had the 9 out all season so I decided to use it. I forgot how well it loaded. I was only supposed to focus on my grip, back cast and front cast. Well I did that for a afew minutes and then I really got going. Before I knew it I was doin all those fun things...

The tale of the transplanted fisherman - The Arkansas Journey

Posted 02-27-2011 at 06:14 PM by alcorn

Well my friends I have arrived. My work has kept me very busy but this weekend I finally made it to the Little Red. I even managed to snag a few while there. For those of you who haven't read my thread posted in December, my job moved me to Arkansas from Indiana. My girlfriend and family are all in Indiana so its me, my work, and apparently my fly rod down here in Arkansas. I found a nice little fly shop in Little Rock, which is about 40 minutes from where I live. The people there gave me some flies...

Posted 02-18-2011 at 09:07 AM by Davo (Davo's Fly Angling Adventures)

Well it has been a long winter. Now I'm prepping gear and shoveling out the boat. Want to be ready when a warm day comes around. The itch to go fishing has gotten pretty bad and needs a cure!!

We got a lot of snow this winter so the runoff may be longer and higher than usual. With that in mind I want to be ready for any opportunity to fish the preseason.

I've been watching the flow levels for the South Fork. When I floated last November they had gotten way...

The End Of The Season

Posted 02-04-2011 at 11:03 AM by Davo (Davo's Fly Angling Adventures)

Well every season must come to an end. For me the end is in November when I make my Way to Key Largo. I head down to spend Thanksgiving visiting family and get in a couple of days fishing weather permitting. This the fly fishing was unproductive. We did have some shots at Red fish and Baby Tarpon but did not manage to get hooked up. It was great fun just the same.
The best fun was had taking the nieces and nephew out grunt fishing as they call it in Key Largo. Armed with 50 shrimp and...
