Teaching a Rookie

Posted 08-16-2009 at 10:18 PM by MoscaPescador

My dirty little secret is that I work part time for a local fly shop. It's good supplemental income that helps pay for my fly fishing habit.

Last week a young lady (let's call her Miss C.) took the shop's intro to fly fishing class. She enjoyed the class so much, that she decided to buy an outfit. Being the nice guy that I am, I offered to take her fishing to the Lower Yuba River which isn't the most friendly rookie trout fishery.

Fast forward to yesterday evening....

12hrs to the two day fishing fest!!

Posted 08-12-2009 at 08:34 PM by Davo (Davo's Fly Angling Adventures)

A short 8 hr shift followed by a 1hr and 1/2 drive plus a quickie shuttle. Then it is the start off 2 days of fishing!! Woo Hoo!!

We are starting off with a 25 mile float on the South Fork of the Snake in Swan Valley, Idaho. The fishing reports have been great. Mayflies, hoppers, stones and streamers have all been producing. Add to that this stretch of river is known for big fish and lots of them.

Day two is on the upper Snake River in Jackson Hole. Great fishery, scenery...

2009 has been an off season so far. The Upper Snake River region has seen high water and colder than normal temps this spring and early summer. We had a great winter snow pack and above average rainfall resulting in highwater and a longer than normal runoff. Fishing did not really kickoff until mid July, and even then the fishing was very slow.

Now it is mid August. But things are looking up!! Water levels have come down and the temperatures are on the rise. The hatches have been getting...

What a day...

Posted 08-08-2009 at 09:13 PM by ant

Decided to get a little fishing in this evening. We went to this creek that we recently checked out and found that there is a nice section of water that is very open, and there is a playground and everything for the kids to play while we fish. My fiance was fishing on a spin rod (haven't talked her into flyfishing yet, but I'm working on it ) and I took my 5wt Martin and tied a 12 black Beetle to it and wandered up the bank trying to sight something. The water at this stream is so clear it's...
