Entry #3: 8/13/14 - a chance encounter

Posted 08-13-2014 at 03:12 AM by jeed

I'll admit, I held out for almost two weeks, but with thoughts of gear to be made, fish to catch, new skills to try....I couldn't stay away for long. I'll start with a lead up!

So as previously posted, I've been looking to solve a gear issue. while I love my tech...

My wife isn't into fishing, but she is from Chicago and loved watching the Cubs play the Rockies, especially when the Rockies threw away a two run lead when they ran into pitching problems and walked six straight. Argh! Earlier in the day we took the kids out to a friends place that is just loaded with Smallmouth Bass and a few...

Fly Fishin' Wyoming

Posted 08-01-2014 at 07:22 PM by mcnerney

After three days of rain, the sunny summer weather has returned to our small part of the world so I decided to take advantage of it and made it out for some fishing today. It was my turn to take care of the dogs, we have a new rescue puppy that is pretty much out of control, but getting better, but she loves the water, so I really didn't have very high expectations on being successful at fishing, but despite all the ruckus in the water it was actually quite surprising results. Lots of birds out...

Montana solitude

God, it was hot. Monster flies buzzed loudly and gnats incessantly sought the moisture in my eyes. The sun in the Rockies bore down and stung my skin with its intensity...but my feet were soon to be in 55 degree water and a fly rod was in my hand. On balance, not so bad.

It was just a blue line, this little stream, not even a name on the map. But, it was accessible from a forest service road. When I'd asked at the fly shop the guide working the register said give it a go. He knew...
