Flaming Gorge in the Spring, April 2014

Posted 05-28-2014 at 07:11 PM by mcnerney

I got a chance to fish the Green River below Flaming Gorge, UT this past weekend with my friend Pete from Laramie. The forecast wasn't good, but Pete had made a reservation to do a guided float on Sunday and Pete's schedule wouldn't allow us to reschedule so we went for it. The wind was forecast to be 25-35 mph with higher gusts the whole weekend and the temps weren't much above freezing. I got there on Sat around 10 am and after purchasing a UT fishing license and grabbing a sandwich to go from...

Spring Fishing in Wyoming, April 2014

Posted 05-28-2014 at 06:57 PM by mcnerney

The weather forecast was for a high of 66 degrees and light winds, so I just had to get out of the house and go fishing. I decided to head down to the Green and hit up a new spot that looked promising, after an hour of throwing streamers and nymph fishing and not a single bite, I decided to move on to the spot I discovered on Saturday. On Saturday this spot was just incredible, I couldn't hardly ask for a better piece of water, but how a couple days things change, now the water is off color and...

Green River Fishing Plans go Awry, April 2014

Posted 05-28-2014 at 06:39 PM by mcnerney

The planned fishing trip was to do a float on the Green river with some forum members and then head south to spend a four days floating and wading the Green below Flaming Gorge with Seth (username qacwac) and his GF. Things started to fall apart when Seth called me a couple days ago, he has a job interview on Monday and wouldn't be able to go, so I decided I won't go to Flaming Gorge either as I have another trip scheduled for down there at the end of the month. The plan for the Saturday forum...

Wyoming Spring Fishin', March 2014

Posted 05-28-2014 at 06:35 PM by mcnerney

Last week I got the chance to do some fishing with forum member qacwac who lives in Jackson, WY. On the first day we decided to do a float on the New Fork river, but unfortunately we got on the river at 1 pm and it was a 10 mile float so basically it ended up being a sight seeing trip as I had to keep the boat moving to be able to hit the takeout by 6 pm. The boat ramps still had plenty of snow but we were using my pontoon boat so dragging the boat across the snow was no problem, but when we got...

A Wyoming Cure for Cabin Fever, March 2014

Posted 05-28-2014 at 06:28 PM by mcnerney

I'm getting pretty tired of shoveling snow off the driveway! Today I got a chance to get out fishing, boy did it feel good to get back on the water and the temp is starting to come up some, so being on the water was almost pleasant instead of some of the brutal cold we have been experiencing. I started out nymphing, but that was pretty slow today, caught one nice Brown and that was it, so I switched over to streamers and had a blast. Nothing really big, but lots of action which made for a really...
