Fly Fishing Wyoming with Project Healing Waters (Part 1)

I just got back from four days of fishing on the Green with three guys from Project Healing Waters (Bob, Doug and Curt), with Bob Gartner setting up the fly fishing trip sampling the waters around Wyoming/Montana. I had met Bob Gartner (who runs the Ft Belvoir PHW program) through the help of Silver Creek last winter when we were tying and donating flies to Project Healing Waters and Casting for Recovery. Flow

I had a couple hours free today, and chose to spend them on my home river. A few random thoughts:

*I fished an "old" hole of mine. This particular section a massive forest fire pretty much trashed a few years ago. I used to hammer it in there, but haven't caught or even tried in a couple years. Today I caught 6 or 7 nice fish! Browns and Bows. Just like the old days. Fun. Great to see this stretch coming back to life.

*The rivers flow is drifting into...

tippits and leaders

Why use a tippet at all? Why not just tie the leader to the line? For that matter, why also use backing?
Why not just tie the line to the reel then lleader to the line?
If using a tippet, what length should it be?
