Default Re: What are your favorite brook trout flies?

The brookies out here always seem eager to take almost any of my dry flies. Lets see I have luck with: Stimulators (with and without rubber legs) #12-10, Humpys (red, yellow, and green) #14-12, EHC #14-12, Beetles #12, Black ants #18-16, Adams #18-14, Royal Wulfs #18-12, PMDs #20-18, and the list goes on and on. I have never had to fish sub-surface for them out here.

Brook Trout ........Hum Now thats one of my favorite Trout to catch! In the upper Georgia Mountains we use alot of Stimulators size #14 which catch just about all of our Brookies! Its hard to beat the coloration of a Brook Trout!

Just about any fly that will catch them..............which is just about any fly.
I've caught them on ants (16 & 18), elk hair caddis (16), adams (14-18), hares ear (14 & 16), even green humpies fished wet (12 & 14). Brookies are soooo eager to please/eat. The best little trout there are.

Brookies are not pciky. Throw an apropriately portioned dry fly (brookies are not adverse to flies seemingly too large for them) or a flashy nymph and they will probably go crazy for it unless they are under a lot of pressure.

I have had most success with #12 Yellow PMX dry flies as well as #12-#16 yellow and orange stimulators.

Brookies also like the color chartreuse a LOT.
