Default Cowlitz river pics

Had a great time fishing the cowlitz, we did a 4hr float trip from Blue creek Hatchery to the new boat ramp next to my wifes uncles house. We didnt have any luck, but it was still worth every moment on the river. Alot of gear chuckers the first 1/2 mile of the run, fishing the banks and using jet boats. I didnt see anyone catching anything also talked to a few guys who didnt have any luck all day. You guys were right its alot different fishing out west, alot bigger rivers, a spey rod would be very helpful...lol. But here are some pics of the trip enjoy!!! Click the image to open in full size. kruggy1: Very nice photos, thanks for sharing. Yes, we have some big rivers in the west. The Cowlitz looks like it might be a good river to pound the banks with streamers, maybe later in the spring when the water warms up a tad the fishing will pick up.

Kruggy, nice pictures...How'd you like the pontoon? It would work well on some of those Ohio streams...Were you swinging streamers?

Hey Dan,
The pontoon was cool very stable and easy to fish from, it would be nice to have one here. I was using my 9wt with shooting line and sink tips throwing egg leeches and similar type flies. Some spots in the river are deep and its a very fast current river.

Hi Kruggy,

I thought you might be surprised how big the water is. The trick is to find the channels that the Steelhead use. Even though the river is real wide there are only one or two channels that the fish use to travel or to rest. If you get that figured out your chances go way up. It looks like you had a blast.
