Stillwater Rainbows and Browns from Manitoba, Canada

Another day trip out to the western side of the province. We fished two lakes, half day each lake.

The sun was shining and wind was non-existent which made things especially tough. The fish weren't as aggressive as they were last week and our presentations had to be adjusted in order to be successful. We did manage a few nice fish.

The water at noon. Like glass...not ideal trout weather.

You seem to get into some of the most beautiful fish. Any chance you got a guest room and spare float tube?

Hi Didgeridoo,

Wonderful looking fish.

I hate those glass smooth lakes. Years ago I use to fish a lake in the Sierras. The lake got a light wind up at 10am every morning. You could almost set you clock by it. It was a two hour drive to the lake and about a 45 minute hike to my favorite spot. If I got to my spot and the wind wasn't blowing I just sat on a rock and fooled with my gear. When the wind started I started fishing and always caught fish. I don't remember ever catching a fish with out the ripple on the water from the wind.

Do you play a Didgeridoo?

Frank

bekiu002 - I do have a spare float tube. haha.

Frank Whiton - I also like to have some surface chop, just to break it up. Seems to really give the fish more security and they're not quite as particular. These lakes are typically quite windy as they're on the prairies and pretty much wide open. So this was pretty bizarre that they were like glass.

Yes I play didgeridoo, although not as much as I would like to.

Is this in the Russell area? Part of the Parkland Fishery?

Yup. Fishing the parkland region of Manitoba. World class stillwater trout fisheries.

Here's a couple pics I got off my buddy. Silly rainbows were just packed with eggs. They were spewing as soon as you netted them. I don't feel as bad since they don't actually lay them or reproduce in our stillwaters.
