Around here the rainbows are the strongest fighters, take the fly deep and hard and then come flying up out of the water. Pretty spectacular! The browns hit hard, go deep and try and stay there. Strong fighters but not like rainbows even though I like the browns better. The brook trout hit hard and you think you have a monster but they quickly give up strong fight and fairly easy to bring them in. Even the smaller ones hit like a fish twice their size.
"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...because only in the woods can I find solitude without lonliness..." Robert Traver 1964 (Judge John Voelker)

Yank a 40 lb Laker from 150 foot of water on light tackle and tell me they dont fight! They do!!!

For my money the hardest fighters are Steelhead/Rainbows. Worst goes to the fresh stockers...of any kind.
