Fish'n Dry Fly as Liv'n Insect

I've heard about this, done on a short line- not more than 20'. You make the dry fly dance around. You don't worry about drift. It seems to me the current would carry it downstream unless you keep lifting it off the water. In any event I have no idea how to do this- any help appreciated. I've read you can also do a very similar thing subsurface with big wet flies.

make sure you grease the leader good. hold rod up high when you dance/skitter the fly. works great for caddis and stone flys. been doing it for years..
