Default Where to go in NY State for salmon???

Hello, I live in NY State and want to try my hand at Salmon fishing..anyone know of some decent places? And what kind of rod/reel might you suggest?

Hi googoo,

There is an article in the December issue of Fly Fisherman Magazine about Landlocked Salmon fishing in NY. If you can run down a copy I think it will help you a lot. The article is about fishing the Finger Lakes area if you know where that is. Contact Fly Fisherman to locate a copy of the magazine.

Water's kinda low in many rivers upstate (I live on Long Island).
If you were to go to DEC's website they have an abundance of
information.

It's the tail end of the salmon season in this area (western NY). The brown's are in and steelheads will follow. The water is low in the tribs but the big rivers have a good clean flow.
I would suggest that you plan a trip next fall (late Oct - mid Nov).
Google steelhead fishing for Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
