Default 2 Plus Pound Sea Run Brookie

Hey there,

Happy to report a pretty good year at my end. I have been fishing the esturine parts of the rivers and streams. This is where the tidal flood influences the depths of the streams and rivers being fished.

This beautiful 2 plus pound fish measuring 15.5 inches was taken on a dry white miller pattern. The rod pictured is a #5 weight 2 piece 7'6" Sage Graphite III from the original RPL series. A real vintage joy to fish with, feather lite and remarkably sensitive. Fly line is Scientific Angler GPX Textured. Awesome stuff.

As being discussed in another thread, the reel is an American parts, LL Bean Double L Mid-Arbor Fly Reel of I believe Chinese assembly. A great reel so far that has gotten good reviews and has nice features and working parts. True its not North American truly made. But LL Bean employs engineers and other research professionals who make possible a superior product for the price. Plus they ship free to Canadians. All good.

It was a real adventure. Had to play him out for 5-10 minutes. Landed him with no net.

That's a nice one! Do you get a lot of sea-run brookies in PEI?

Yes sir, We get pretty much all sea run brookies. All the fresh water sources on PEI empty into the Atlantic ocean. So pretty much all our trout are diadromous (migrate between salt and fresh water). It really fattens them up and gives them a vitality much like a salmon. Gotta love them.

Great looking trout! I am in south NB, might be worth the drive some season to try my 3wt on the island!

You would definitely have fun. Trout numbers seem to up on the Island. Pick any river and fish the head waters. Pretty sure you'd have luck.

Hi Noreaster,

Do they taste similar to salmon? Meat red or very bright orange? Just wondering, that's a nice char you've got there.
