Believe-it-or-not I shoot a Point-and-Shoot Pentax Optio W90. My son has also used the Pentax Optio WS80 until it came up missing recently. I would recommend both as waterproof options for in the field and on the water. Pentax also has some newer options in the Optio WG series.

I also shoot a Nikkon D5100, but fear of taking a dunking makes me super careful over the water. I have had several of my photos published in a few magazines and they have all been taken with the WS80 or W90 Pentax Optio models.
