I haven't ever flied it, though I use to hit it with ultralight gear. Just like trout streams the rivers are constantly changing and takes time to learn the holes and spots. Cooling down I would expect the Smallies to slow down and the eyes to possibly move up some.

The iowadnr site says there is a trout steam off of the wapsi. However, I'm glad to here about Pike. I'm headed there the first weekend of November to fly fish for them. I had luck in the Winnebago by the water outlet in mason city. I'm bringing a friend up to get his first pike on the fly. Hopefully, my first walleye on the fly as well. I was just checking the report for the added bonus of trout if the Pike fishing is slow. Going to fish the cedar, wapsi, Iowa river, Winnebago, and other rivers we come across.

There are three stocked trout streams off by themselves in the Osage area. Spring, turtle and Wapsi. This is not the same Wapsi (may be a tributary)as the much larger, longer Wapsi river which is a warmwater fishery.

I would also recommend the Shell Rock. Good stream for smallmouth. If you message me your route I can highlight some good stops.

Yes, I'm making it out two or three times a week, but have not to Wapsi. I love this time of year. Best of luck on your trip.
