Locally Mossy Creek's public section is known for being hard to fish. You can't get in the water and no one manicures the banks—except the free roaming cows. It's flies and catch and release only (although you can take home anything over 23"). There isn't very much grade which allows silt to build up and moss to grow like crazy making it hard not to snag flies in the water and the overhanging trees get their fair share of ornaments year round. This creek alone can keep the local fly peddling shop in business. To boot, the abundant springs and vegetation give trout a year round buffet which spoils them to a point they don't NEED to eat your imitation no matter how perfect the presentation.

All of this is to say, in 2013 I shied away from this creek. Compared to the other 2 spring creeks in my home water list, Mossy Creek was getting neglected.

I vowed in 2014 I'd change that. I'm laying off the other spring creeks (only fishing those 2x a month) and the rest is Mossy Creek.

Today I was blessed with landing my first decent brown out of there. I've caught plenty of 5-7" daggers but was happy to land this long lean one.

Looking forward to landing it after it's had a few months to fatten up some more.
