Well I wouldn't say open water. lol. The lake I was on only had a couple hundred yards of ice free water. Everywhere else was locked up tight with ice. Today we're supposed to get 20cm of snow out that way and blustery winds as well. Not in the clear yet! Gotta love 18C one day to -8C and blizzard the next!

Thanks Brian, I used to play the didge a fair amount but haven't picked it up in a while! Also I'm always collecting pics for reference for my art. Got some gnarly pics of the males and their kypes which might definitely have to be drawn!

Nick

Nice shots Nick. My buddy and I were going to go to Patterson today, but not with snow and heavy winds and below zero celcius temps. Hopefully I'll be posting some pics next week-end (some browns with any luck).

Cheers man. Ya it turned ugly out there. Crazy strong winds too! Hopefully it'll help bust up that ice though!

I tried tossing for browns but it might be a tad bit early still. No real warm spots for the browns to access. Couple weeks and they should turn on, once that ice is gone.

I went fishing with my club again today. This time it was the Lower Yuba River in Browns Valley, CA. on the property of the University of California Research Center. This was my first time fishing the Lower Yuba, I normally fish it up higher in the Sierras. The river was very high at least 5000 cfs and there was lots of wind so I just indy nymphed deep in the slow water on the edges. I caught another fish that was only about 12", but didn't take a picture. It was tough fishing, I fished from about 8:30 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. then we all ate lunch and I finally caught my fish in the picture below about 3:30 p.m. and then the second one shortly after. Finally quite about 4:30 p.m. as I looked up by the vehicles and most everyone was already packing up.

I give the credit for the two fish to Dennis' (MoscaPescador) excellent advice on how to fish as the Lower Yuba it is his home water. It may very well become mine also as I learned of an area I can walk and wade fish that is open to the public and its only about 1.5 hrs from my house.

Tom: Congrats! At 5,000 CFS I'm not surprised the fishing/wading was tough.
